Department of Corrections

In 2010 Optimation assumed prime responsibility for the outsourced Application Development, Maintenance and Support services for the Department of Corrections. A large component of the outsourcing scope is the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS) which is one of NZ’s largest Microsoft applications and supports all business functionality for Prison services, Parole services, and Community Probation services. The outsource contract also includes SAP, the Department’s internal and external websites and other business applications. The contract is delivered by an Optimation-led consortium with HCL (an Indian on-shore/offshore delivery partner) and local company Resultex. The consortium operates in a highly collaborative model with Gen-i (L1 Service Desk and Infrastructure provider) and the Department of Corrections (IT planning and Enterprise Architecture). This creative outcomes-based model delivers significant value for the Department of Corrections through its combination of strong NZ-based relationship management, governance, programme/project management and systems integration with global experience and highly scalable best practice capability. The Optimation-led consortium has worked very successfully with the Department and recently signed a three year contract extension out to July 2018.

Large Ministry

Optimation provides Solution Architects, embedded within a Ministry’s Architecture team to deliver system changes to meet legislative requirements. Optimation provides technology agnostic architects to a Ministry with the ability to work across a broad spectrum of technologies and products. As part of the Ministry’s architecture practice we provide solution options, high level Architecture(s), future state architectures, estimation while working closely with other providers to deliver detailed designs and estimates. We contribute to the Ministry's modelling repository by developing UML based models for all architectures, work with the Ministry's Enterprise Architects, Business Stakeholders and primary outsource providers to ensure appropriate, supportable and functional solutions. Government agency

Optimation provided business architecture consulting to describe the future operating model of the ICT function of a large public sector agency in support of their greater than 10,000 staff. The future operating model was developed to provide a reference point for planning and managing business changes associated the impact of adopting All-of-Government solutions ranging from Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Network as a Service (NaaS) through to positioning the organisation to take advantage of All of Government Common Capabilities and the engagement of an Enterprise Service Provider (ESP). Optimation utilised a Business Model Canvas as a technique for explaining the key impacts and future strategic focal points of the proposed changes on a single page.

Transpower

To maintain the operational integrity of the national power grid from external threats, Transpower engaged Optimation to develop an Enterprise Security Architecture as a precursor to developing a uniform security perimeter. A well-defined security perimeter is an essential counter-measure to risks initiated from external parties. Managing these risks is virtually impossible without a well-defined security perimeter. A high-level architecture for a uniform security perimeter was developed based on current best practices, industry trends and technology. The architecture was modular and extensible and had three discrete stages; perimeter planning and migration strategy, perimeter build and migration planning; migration of services. The Transpower Perimeter project rationalised the current fragmented perimeter by migrating all the services and external connections to a uniform perimeter.
