Celebrating 25 years with our customers and partners
It was a huge privilege to host our customers and partners at Optimation’s 25th birthday celebration in Wellington. We really valued the opportunity to recognise the many great relationships Optimation has forged over the years, and how much we have achieved together. It is amazing to reflect on Optimation’s journey, evolving from a 4-person start-up in 1992 to having over 200 staff today and being an IT partner to some of New Zealand’s biggest organisations.

Increasing diversity in IT with ShadowTech Day
Optimation was privileged to host a group of smart, ambitious young women from Wellington secondary schools as part of ShadowTech Day 2017. ShadowTech encourages female students studying STEM subjects to consider a future career in IT, in a bid to maximise the full potential of New Zealand’s talent and redress the gender imbalance in the tech sector. Recent research from NZTech shows that women make up just 23 per cent of people employed in IT in New Zealand and they are under-represented in senior and management roles.
Optimation appoints new Chief Operating Officer
Carl Church has been appointed to the new role of Chief Operating Officer for leading NZ-owned systems integrator Optimation Group. He will lead Operational, Financial and Commercial functions across the Group’s three businesses, Optimation New Zealand, Optimation Group Australia, and Presto Resourcing Options.

The latest State of the CIO survey shows that 56% of all New Zealand respondents are expecting IT skills shortages this year, with high demand in areas like business analysis and analytics, application development, enterprise architecture, and cloud and mobile technologies.
Optimation appoints new leaders for NZ Consulting and Test practices
Optimation has appointed Craig Reid as its new General Manager Consulting and Sophia Hobman as national Test Practice Manager. The appointments bring additional senior leadership capacity and focus at a time of significant growth for the Optimation Group, as the business has expanded in Australia through OGA and developed innovation-led ventures in the Asian and North American markets.
Giving back to charities with valued IT expertise
Optimation’s Barry Burke contributed his outstanding development and business analysis skills to a great cause at this month’s Charity-IT Hackathon in Wellington. The event gives cash-strapped charities access to much-needed IT expertise for free. Along with 40 other skilled volunteers, Barry spent a weekend delivering projects for four local charities, Able Pet Care, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Kiwi Community Assistance, and Nature Through Arts Collective.
Alex Bouma joins Optimation as GM Business Development
Alex Bouma has joined Optimation in the role of General Manager, Business Development. As a member of Optimation’s Senior Leadership Team, Bouma’s strengths in growing professional services businesses and developing deep client relationships will complement the existing customer-facing roles of Scott McCallum as GM Professional Services and Steve Johnson as GM Delivery.
